Checkmate HQ created by: Michael W. Conrad, Becky Cloonan and Emanuela Lupacchino

     --------------    H   I   S   T   O   R   Y    --------------

Origin: Construction was completed on Georgetown Station in 1858, as the United States Customhouse and Post Office in Washington, D.C. - a Renaissance Revival–Italian Palace style for $55,468. Occupied on its first floor by a branch post office - its second floor by the Customs Service. The main building was designed circa 1857, by Supervising Architect of the United States Treasury, Ammi B. Young (1798–1874).

Sixty-one feet (19 m) by forty-six feet (14 m), it has a low seamed-metal roof and additions to the north and to the east.

On June 23, 1967, the U.S. Customs Office moved from its 31st Street location to a new building in northeast WashingtonAlready recognized as an important building within the Georgetown Historic District, it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1971.

Covert Reassignment: Commissioned in 2022 by Colonel Stephen Rockwell Trevor, as a Project Checkmate covert operations unit headquarters, under ARGUS and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, the existence of its offices are classified; their physical location and coordinates, undisclosed to the public and accessible only with the highest top-secret government security clearances. Since occupying Georgetown Station, Colonel Trevor has made changes to the main building to support a sublevel workspace and fitness room, rooftop event space and an underground garage for agency vehicles, ..while still more tactical modifications remain classified.

A holographically concealed Checkmate emblem is mounted on the front of the building, over its front entrance - covertly visible to authorized personnel and ARGUS satellites. To the general public, ..it simply appears as another window.

As in so many other parts of Washington, DC, there have been multiple and well-documented incidents of paranormal activity at and in areas surrounding Georgetown Station. Most frequently, eye-witnesses have reported sightings of cheetah women, half-naked Amazons, UFOs, ghosts, giants and Pegasi ..in the park, cafes, sports bars, sidewalk, front door, roof, windows.

GROUND FLOOR OFFICES and GLOBAL CYBER-COMMAND CENTER

SUBLEVEL TWO KANGA STABLES

     ----------    P   O   W   E   R   S    |    W   E   A   P   O   N   S    ----------

Among Colonel Trevor's tactical and defensive modifications to Georgetown Station, only speculated even at the highest offices, are the following: global cyber-command center with Magic Sphere, infirmary, hi-tech weapons firing range, hi-tech and occult weapons arsenal, human/metahuman combat training hall, barracks, kanga and Pegasi stables, chimney laser cannon array, hidden gun and cannon ports, exterior perimeter surveillance devices, rooftop Invisible Jet port, garage for Esmerelda (modified, heavily armored Humvee, with hi-tech weapons), Asgardian sauna (with necromantic access) ..and secret tunnels into DC, Maryland and Virginia.

Georgetown Station's primary defense? Chimney ..laser ..cannons...from Venus!

SUBLEVEL FLOORPLANS [CLASSIFIED?]

A gift from Queen Desira of Venus (installed by her artisans), these laser cannons are built into the chimneys, ..which actually work. These chimneys fractally transform into Venusian laser cannons, ..powerful enough to repel an attack from Darkseid, Warworld, Atlantis or the war god Mars. The Station's chimney laser cannons are supported by other laser weaponry and missiles strategically arrayed along the exterior walls, concealed by false windows, ..and more still on the roof.

Checkmate DC's tactical communications surpass state-of-the-art capabilities. Using the Magic Sphere, Colonel Trevor and his task force specialists can call together the greatest minds, experience and abilities of the Amazon world - of the time-lost islands Themyscira and Thalarion ..and of the mystical realms Mount Olympus, Hell and the Dreaming - for consultation or action in cosmic and supernatural crises. Through the necromantic power of an Asgardian Sauna, he and his team can commune with the Norse gods and the Dead, bringing the occult knowledge of intellects from the near and distant past to bear on paranormal threats to the U.S. and her allies...

And the exfoliant advantages are fabulous!

Presently, the existence of the above-listed tactical and defensive modifications to Georgetown Station cannot be verified by Checkmate DC's parent agencies, ARGUS and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, or any branch of the U.S. Military - or the Justice League - while more still remain entirely unknown.

One of Georgetown Station's even more unique and better known defenses is the Amazon superheroine, Wonder Woman. Of course.

KILLBILLEUS 2: WHY TYNION'S CIRCE IS STILL THE TORMENTED, IMPLACABLE DRACULA OF WONDER WOMAN'S ROGUES

By Edgar Miraculous Dyer With DC Comics'  Rebirth publishing event in 2021, Greg Rucka's award-winning  Wonder Woman  reboot re-introduced us to the Immortal Amazon's enduring witch foe, Circe,  ..re-imagined as a quirky,  Doctor Who'ish creature, trolling the space-time continuum from her mystical and inter-dimensional palace,  Aeaea!   I have and have had, since the 80s, a real problem accepting a generic  sorceress as Wonder Woman's archnemesis, if only because I don't see 'fighting magic [?]' ..as a rationale for Wonder Woman's presence in the world of mortal men - that's NOT why she left her Paradise Island! Besides that, I just don't like sorceress antagonists much and never have. What does a world, conquered by Circe or any other sorceress, look like, anyway? Why should Wonder Woman or anyone fear it? Is it wild boar falling from the sky? Global chocolate shortage? All of humanity lost in a violent nightmare, she'll never let

GREAT HERA! IS THIS THE END OF THE WORLD-BUILDING CLOONAN-CONRAD ERA...OR IS IT?!

By Mel Dyer Imagine... Etta Candy, sharp-shooting Texas rancher-girl!  Colonel Steve,   ex-militaire  coming out of World War II! Dr. Minerva, weird, werecat lady scientist and... Siegfried the Viking, dragon-slaying hero of German myth! Now, imagine them joining William Moulton Marston's  Wonder Woman  ..and over three-thousand savage, half-naked AMAZONS, ..red-hot from the Amazing Amazon's wild, time-leaping, empire-toppling adventures in the Golden Age of COMICS! That would've been a helluva leap into the Silver Age Fifties for this historically low-selling comic, ..if it had happened. Well, it didn't happen, ..but t hat is the kind of excitement, which  the Michael W. Conrad/Becky Cloonan run - electrified by  editor Brittany Holzherr,  ..artists Travis Moore, Terry Dodson, Skylar Partridge, Amancay Nahuelpan, Tamara Bonvillain, Pat Brosseau and others ..s et the stage for   in mid-2021! Now, the Wonder Woman comic has a dynamic regular CAST, interesting recu
