REDEMPTION SONG FOR HERCULES

Second Edition By Mel Dyer The Wonder Woman  comic is at its best - its most entertaining - with its leading lady, Diana of the Amazons, under fire and rising to a challenge! Game-changing stakes and characters, who challenge her freedom-loving, Bohemian ideals, distinguish her as more than a female Man of Steel; they uniquely define her, ..as Wonder Woman. Certainly, one of the greatest challenges to her Amazonian mettle, ever created, ..has been classical literature's superman, Hercules. I don't think Wonder Woman’s creator, Dr. William Marston or most of the writers, who followed him, have ever fully  reformed Hercules, an alternately quarrelsome, thuggy companion and outright enemy of the Amazing Amazon’s, ..since her launch in World War II. Even 1950s writer/editor Robert Kanigher, after making him one of Diana's fairy godfathers, lending his magical strength to her own, ..typically wrote him, as an unrepentant jerk. Like so many other male supporting characters, who a

MARSTON CITY LIMITS: WHY CAN'T WONDER WOMAN GET HER OWN BIG GOTHAMETROPOLIS?!

By Edgar Miraculous Dyer In the 1950s, ..while DC Comics was inviting comic fans to emotionally invest in the warm familiarity of Gotham City, Metropolis, Central City, Coast City, Ivy City, Midway City and Gateway City ..and their association with its most popular superheroes - with a super-New York being established for Marvel's - nothing close to that was happening in the  Wonder Woman  comic. Like Aquaman or Thor, she originated from an iconic lost civilization, the Amazons' Paradise Island, and many of Wonder Woman's stories almost always unfolded there, leaving her fans, without the tone-setting, iconic city thing that the fans of so many other popular comics ..have had fifty or sixty years to get attached to. This is where Wonder Woman fans reach the Marston City limits, wherein lies, well... nothing? I think we've got to keep that in perspective. When looking at the too-long missing, regular supporting cast, ..iconic settings, stylized vehicles and weapons,

WITH CHEETAH AND MYTHICAL SIEGFRIED ABOARD, A CLASSIC CAST FOR WONDER WOMAN...FINALLY?!

The CLOON'RAD-MOORE & COMPANY ERA CAST TOP ROW 1) Dr. Minerva/Cheetah by unknown artist 2) Col. Steve Trevor by Nicola Scott 3) Invisible Jet by Phil Jimenez BOTTOM ROW 4) Wonder Woman by Travis Moore 5) Etta Candy by Cliff Chiang 6) Siegfried (Siggy) by Travis Moore Another Wondabunga collage! Wonder Woman, Etta Candy, Col. Steve, Dr. Minerva and Siegfried? These are the characters that have turned a creative run - writers Michael W. Conrad, Becky Cloonan and Jordie Bellaire, with artist Travis Moore - on WONDER WOMAN, into an ERA. B y now, everybody here and in SPACE knows I'm in LOVE with this CAST! It really takes me back to a time, when comics were just FUN and a bright explosion of joy in a bleak world. The promise of this cast is so GUTSY! On a purely impish, regressive little boy level, I wanna' yell, "Wonder Woman's got a GI JOE dude, a VIKING GOD with a magic sword AND a CHEETAH-MONSTER, over here! Lookit' THIS TEAM!" Any TV show or sci-fi/f

SHIPPING JIGGY, THE HOTTEST SUPER COUPLE, SINCE SIGGY...THAT OPERA THING? YOU KNOW!

By Mel Dyer The Siggy-matching on CBR Community has been vicious! For a hot minute, before Cheetah was added to the regular cast of  Wonder Woman  comic, I thought I'd like to see historical geologist Dr. Julia Kapatelis  - next to Etta Candy, the Amazing Amazon's most trusted friend in Man's World - join Etta, Col. Steve and mythical dragonslayer of Germanic mythology,  Siegfried ("Siggy"),  in the book, ..eventually. I felt her age, skills, life experiences and history with Diana might bring a good balance to the narrative. I also thought it would be marvelous, if Siggy was hot for her, since his last real relationship was with a Valkyrie in an opera, ..and he's really, REALLY quite old - thousands of years old, as it would be... And Doc Julia's a paleontologist. Like...a scientist, who studies really old things? She's also a mature woman, ..older than Donna Troy. Sure--eventually, Siggy would probably lose her to Ching or Zeus ... But, for a wh
